Why should I choose Vatel?
The reasons are numerous but your bright future is definitely the best reason. We specialise in Hotel Management and offer a comprehensive range of subjects that are indispensable for anyone desiring to pursue a career as a manager in the hospitality industry. At present we have students from over 50 different nationalities and this number is continuing to grow. Our alumni are currently placed in some of the world’s most prestigious hotels. This we believe is a good testimony that Vatel’s method is working, bringing quality staff to international establishments.

Where does Vatel rank compared to other schools?
In France there is no comparative ranking system similar to that presently in place in the US but Vatel is definitely one of the most reputable Hotel Management educational establishments in Europe. Vatel ranked n° 2 in Europe, a position that we are very proud of and strive to top by continuing to provide quality educational programmes in conjunction to the needs of students and by listening to and being proactive to changes and developments in the hotel and tourism industry. Independent surveys such as those conducted by the IPSOS are unprejudiced and unbiased and it’s for this very reason that we respect their objectivity and neutral standpoint in ascertaining their results.

This statement can be backed up by the fact that the most respected representatives in the international hotel industry awarded Vatel the Worldwide Hospitality Award in the category of “Best Training Programme”. This is the first time that a school has been awarded this award. It’s important to be abreast of changes and at Vatel we are. Are degrees recognised abroad?
French National University Degree: Vatel prepares its students for the French National Degree. This degree can be validated in the students’ country of origin, thus granting them official recognition in their native country. The French National degree is indisputably an asset for any student throughout his /her professional career. Courses are taught at Vatel in accordance to a programme that has been devised in conjunction with the Université de Perpignan. Guest university professors teach certain courses and the final examination will take place at Vatel.

Eurhodip Degree: This degree is recognised by professionals in Europe and throughout the world, it identifies on one hand the students’ managerial competencies, excellent broad cultural awareness, perfect command of foreign languages and on the other hand, the technical skills and deep professional culture synonymous with the hotel and tourism industry.The final examination is organised under the supervision of European Juries.

Does Vatel use the European Credit Transfer System?
Yes, Vatel accepts students who have previously studied at other higher level education colleges and universities throughout Europe. We also accept students who have studied outside of the European Union. The aim of the ECTS is to ensure that students can make the most out of the increased mobility and efficiency of education.

How international is Vatel?
Vatel is extremely international!! We can boast about 50 nationalities living and studying side by side at the Vatel Nîmes campus. The programmes at Vatel Nîmes are taught in English. The teaching staff consists of both French and international lecturers.

Is it true that students do their practical classes in a real hotel?
Yes, that’s right students do their practicals in the 4 **** “Hotel Vatel” which is adjacent to the school. There are two restaurants in this hotel: Les Palmiers and Le Provençal. Students get to work alongside professionals in all of the hotel’s departments. This is obviously an ideal learning environment for students whereby they get to put into practice all their theoretical knowledge.

Does Vatel offer any courses purely dedicated to leisure and tourism?
Vatel specialises in training Hotel Management personnel. Although there are subjects in the curriculum which focus on leisure and tourism, this is not our main objective. However, many students have diversified in their careers and are working in the leisure and tourism sector.

How many students are there per class?
There are around 25 students per class. Smaller classes mean that the teaching staff have more time to dedicate to students.

Does Vatel offer any French classes as part of the curriculum?
Yes, there are French classes as part of the curriculum for all students.

Are students briefed and prepared before they travel abroad and start studying at Vatel?
Yes, Vatel offers practical advice to all students before they arrive in France. Even throughout the application process students are provided with prompt precise information and guidance.

Is there a pick up service from the airport / train station?
Yes, there is a pick up service from Montpellier airport and Nîmes train station. This is a free service which is available a few days prior to each intake.

Are there career advisors at Vatel?
Yes, we offer careers advice at Vatel to all students. Our career advisors are ready to direct you in the right direction and listen to you. A lot of students are interested in talking to an advisor about their future career paths.

What services does the Student Service Centre offer?
The Student Service Centre is a department which offers a range of services and information to students. In order to facilitate the personal and study integration of international students at Vatel and in particularly Nîmes, the Student Service Centre provides additional dedicated services and activities.
- Orientation week with assistance on all administrative work: how to open a bank-account and apply for a student residency permit
- Introduction to the French way of life and helpful information about the city of Nîmes
- Guided visit of the old city of Nîmes and its surroundings
- Organisation of many sports and leisure activities during days, evenings and week-ends: seaside, outings, winter sports, golf, wine tasting…

- Organisation of social and cultural events on campus and in Nîmes
- Assistance with internship placements and part-time jobs
- Counselling service to assist students with any personal or academic issues that may arise
