Lyon, a destination both tourists and the media love
Competing against its French and European rivals, Lyon has been able to stand out during the years with an attractive offer proposing “the French art of fine living” in just a small area and responding to what international visitors are now looking for. A destination with all the advantages of a big city, but one with a human dimension.
And the growing interest of visitors quickly followed. Key touristic indicators exploded between 2010 and 2016 and the good results in the hospitality industry bear witness to the increasing attractiveness of this metropolitan area. In five years, week-end room occupancy rate has grown by 5.3 points and the number of person-nights has increased by 13%.
Lyon, at the same time, has become more easy to reach, thanks to its international airport, with over 148 flights all over the world. The summer of 2016 was a record-breaking year for new lines, with 30 new regular flights and 21 new destinations.
International media is also charmed by Lyon’s attractions. In the past five years, the city has welcomed over 1,000 journalists, showing a 42% progression. The number of articles on the attractiveness of the City of Lyon has been doubled.
A long-term undertaking that has borne fruit
For ten years, OnlyLyon Tourism and its General Manager, Francois Gaillard, have increased their promotion campaigns targeting both the general public and professionals, on the city’s many attractions. We’d like to congratulate him and his team!
