Tell us about your internship
I was in charge of VIP guests at the Mercure Nusa Dua in Bali (Accor group). Qatar Airways is one of the main ones: its captains and flight attendants came in by groups of 20, up to three times per day! I had to check the VIP rooms before they checked in, make sure they were satisfied, check on cleanliness in the hotel and on the grounds.
Then missions at the front office were included and I also learned a lot here.
Why did you choose Bali?
I really wanted to work for the French Accorhotels group, as I share their values and it seemed easier to get a foot in the door here than with a foreign group. My contact person at their head office saw that I was interested in Indonesia and helped me out for my internship.
As I like learning about other cultures, I was looking forward to discovering Bali, with its traditions and generosity. This experience lived up to my expectations: hospitable, smiling and generous, Balinese have all qualities that good hotel managers need! I felt right at home.
Before I left, I got in touch with other Vatel students who did their internships in Bali: they gave me great tips.
What do you remember the most about Bali?
All of my memories are great! People often asked me questions, as I was the only European person the hotel employed: I explained what I was doing and sometimes they wanted to speak French with me. Another souvenir is linked to Bali’s religious character, as it is also known as the “Isle of the Gods.” During a Hindu festivity, my colleagues lent me clothing and accessories so that, like them, I could wear traditional Balinese attire.
This internship in Bali was a great opportunity. On the other hand, I had to always be flexible and ready to listen to others.
Tell us more about your internships and your Vatel Paris courses.
I chose Vatel Paris as my dream is to have my own hotel one day: being able to work in all departments in a hotel is a great asset.
Each internship is a new exciting stage to build my professional project. My first internship, at the Four Seasons George V (Paris) made me more professional, thorough and organized. I became more autonomous in Bali. No better way to end my training.
