On Wednesday January 22nd, 2014, Maureen Marinier, the Communications Manager of the Best Western in France brand and Cyrille Charpentier, the General Manager of the BEST WESTERN Le Guilhem came to Nimes to present the American hotel brand to Vatel students.
This is not the first time Best Western has spoken to Vatel students. You probably remember that on November 20th, Sarah Morisseau, the Best Western France HR Manager and Julia Vidalenc, the BEST WESTERN Le Jardin de Cluny Hotel Manager came to Vatel Paris to speak to students.
Mr. Charpentier, you’ve managed the BEST WESTERN Le Guilhem Hotel for over ten years now. How is the Best Western brand different from other hotel brands?
I don’t know too much about other hotel brands, but the Best Western network is a very active one and one that constantly spurs us forward. We attend a lot of workshops. This gets us out of our offices and allows us to come back with a global overview and more motivation. Of course, financial interests and renown have something to do with this. 20% of my turnover comes from the Best Western France reservation center.
What jobs and career opportunities did you present to Vatel Nimes students?
We spoke about various cafe, hotel and restaurant jobs. On average, every month we have about a hundred vacant jobs in our hotel network.
What advice could you give to those students who would also like to manage a hotel?
You have to be polyfunctional and know how to surround yourself with the right people. You have to be curious, involved and work like each hotel actually belongs to you.
