A Marco Polo video and quotations

A student of Vatel in France, Pauline Millet left to do her second year in the English-speaking classes of Vatel Mauritius. Here’s a video interview before departure and an excerpt of what she had to say about this upon returning.

There are many different reasons why Pauline Millet decided to go to Vatel. But the most important one of all of them was the possibility of leaving to do her second year of schooling on another campus, with the Marco Polo program.

As soon as she had started her first year in Vatel Lyon, she had already decided to apply for Vatel Mauritius. “Besides of course, this great destination, for me studying in Mauritius was the opportunity to have all of my courses in English and to do my practical application weeks in the island’s resorts.

The video below shows Pauline talking about her expectations right before leaving and also a few quotes from what she had to say upon returning. After having spent six months in Mauritius, Pauline came back to France for 10 days before leaving to do her second Vatel internship in China.

Mauritius“All the Vatel Mauritius students are invite to a Student Fair at the beginning of the year where the school’s partner hotels interview us. I was accepted at the Prince Maurice, part of the Constance group, where I worked as a wine steward and assistant restaurant services manager.

“My class was very cosmopolitan: students from Vatel Mauritius of course, but also other Marco Polo students from Vatel Bordeaux, Vatel Switzerland, Vatel Moscow and Vatel Brussels. It’s reassuring to know that we all go to the same school, because when you’re a long way from home at only 18 or 19, it’s pretty tough sometimes.”

 “I really enjoyed working as a group during our courses.” “We had to prepare presentations on many different subjects and our professors built their courses around our work.”

“I loved taking part in the local festivals like Diwli in October and the events that our school organized at the Casela Animal Park and at the Maradiva Hotel.”

Local cooking is strongly influenced by Indian culture: lots of spices, roasts, hot peppers, dishes based on rice or dried peas (dhall poori). I loved it, but must admit that since then, I don’t eat much rice anymore.”
