Xavier Doger de Speville graduated from the Lycee des Mascareignes high school in Mauritius in 2012, majoring in math and economy. He had known what he wanted to do for ages: study hotel management, at Vatel.
And he didn’t have to go halfway across the world to do it! Four years earlier, a school had opened on the island, complying of course, with all the basics of Vatel’s educational methods: weeks of theoretical courses in marketing, human resources, administration, etc., followed by weeks of professional experiences in the school’s many partner hotels.
With experience in the “Resorts” category, after his four-month internship at the Beachcomber Hotel in the Trou aux Biches, Xavier decided to go to France the following year, to experience a completely new hotel category: Palaces.
With the Marco Polo exchange program, he started his second Bachelor year at Vatel Paris, with a week of theoretical courses. Marketing, human resources, administration: the same courses as he had on the island. The following week targeted professional experiences where he discovered a whole new type of clients, those at the Vatel Paris Restaurant.
The week after he had theoretical courses and this rhythm continued up until his internship, which Xavier did in the concierge department at the legendary Bristol Palace Hotel. "This Marco Polo year was an enriching experience as it allowed me to understand and apply luxury hotel standards, which I hadn’t seen before.”
Xavier went back to Vatel Mauritius the following year for his third year of Bachelor courses. “For additional experience in managing luxury hotel clients and visualizing the French art of hospitality, I decided to come back to Paris for another six-month internship in the rooms division and at the front desk at the Royal Monceau Palace.”
Then Xavier went back to Mauritius for his graduation ceremony and he signed his first work contract as the Events and Banquets Coordinator for the Indigo Group, which has four business hotels on the island.
