Students of Vatel Bordeaux created their association

Learning while having fun: that’s what three students want to accomplish. Let’s meet Pierre, Eliott and Adrien.

1 - How did you get the idea of creating this association?

Adrien: Of course, this happened when we were having a glass of wine! We had just begun our first year at school. We went to the La Conserverie Bar with some other students to get to know each other better, and that’s how I met Pierre.

Pierre: We started talking about our courses, the other business and management schools, what we wanted to do in the future. Then we continued talking while enjoying a good bottle of wine and quite naturally we ended up thinking that Vatel Bordeaux needed its own oenology association.

2 -  Who is supporting you in this project?

Eliott: Vintel remains our project of course, but Ludovic Glorieux, our school’s academic director, supported us right from the very beginning. He was delighted that his students took an initiative like this. He suggested that we set up a meeting with Gaetan Gladieux, who is the Head Sommelier for Tables Vatel, so that he could help us find partners for our first events.

Pierre: It’s important to point out that we are not wine specialists, but thanks to our school, we can have private and accelerated lessons with Jean-Pascal Paubert, from the French Union of Wine Stewards. We can also count on the assistance of students doing their MBA in Wine & Spirits Management, and that’s exactly what we’re trying to do with this project: break down the barriers between students. With Vintel, we’re not longer in a Bachelor, an MBA and so on, we’re just a group of people who love wine.

3 - Who could be interested in this association?

Eliott: This association is for all students who are interested in the many dimensions of wine: its history, wine-tasting, oenotourism, etc.  How much they already know isn’t important; the goal of each event is to learn and discover while having a good time.

4 -  What kind of activities will Vintel have?

Pierre: We’re going to organize wine-tasting events, themed dinners, workshops matching wine and food and presentations to meet people producing wine, taste their production and learn more about wine and how grapes are grown. We’d also like to set up workshops on how to create cocktails, as well as ones targeting spirits.

Adrien: We’re also going to propose oenotourism outings, such as visiting domains, wine cellars and vineyards. We’re in Bordeaux after all, and this is the place to be to take advantage of wine!

5 - When will your first activity take place?

Eliott: For our first event, we’d like to go to the place where the Vintel adventure began: La Conserverie. It’s a great place to meet and has a very good wine list, just what our association is looking for. We haven’t yet decided on a date, but we’re hoping to set something up by April.

6 - What will the next steps be?

Pierre: We just created our  Facebook page to communicate with all Vatel Bordeaux students. Now we’re counting on them to join us and to take part in our association in 2017-2018.

Here are the functions that are still open:

For other members, we’ll be asking for annual dues of 35 € beginning in September, 2017.

Adrien: We’re also going to participate in the inter-school competition organized by the AOC Kedge oenology association, that will take place on March 11 and 12, here at Vatel Bordeaux.

So, for all wine lovers and everyone else, Vintel Bordeaux wants you!
