Job Profiles

Financial Director

In the hospitality and tourism sector, finance holds a strategic position. The Financial Director (or Chief Financial Officer - CFO) is the guarantor of their establishment's financial policy. This includes managing cash flow, planning budgets, handling taxation, analyzing performance, and managing risks.

Main Responsibilities

The Financial Director is a key player in hotel management. Their responsibilities revolve around several major areas:

  • Cash and Financial Management: This involves tracking liquidity, working capital, and accounting indicators to guide the financial strategy.
  • Budget Planning: They define short- and long-term financial objectives and develop budgets.
  • Financial Analysis and Reporting: This includes collecting and presenting performance data and communicating results to shareholders and managers.
  • Taxation and Regulation: They oversee tax and legal obligations and validate contracts and fiscal choices.
  • Financial Risk Management: They identify and mitigate risks related to credit, exchange rates, liquidity, or contracts.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of finance, taxation, management control, and commercial law.
  • Mastery of financial information systems, accounting software, and management tools.
  • Experience in banking relations, both national and international.
  • A solid understanding of economics and financial markets.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, which is essential in the international sector.

Soft Skills

  • Leadership and team management.
  • Analytical and synthesis skills to interpret and utilize data.
  • Meticulousness, a sense of organization, and foresight.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to convince partners, investors, and shareholders.
  • Stress resilience and a high level of availability, often with frequent travel.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Degrees

A Bac +5 (Master's level) degree is recommended, with a specialization in finance, economics, accounting, or auditing. An MBA in International Hospitality is particularly well-suited for developing financial expertise applied specifically to the hotel and tourism sector. Significant experience in finance and/or hospitality is a major asset.

Working Conditions

  • This is a position with significant strategic responsibility.
  • Frequent travel is common, especially for CFOs of international hotel groups.
  • Work hours are often long due to financial deadlines.

Salary

Compensation depends on the company's size and prestige, the country, and experience:

  • Entry-level: Starting from €4,000 gross per month.
  • Confirmed professional: Around €60,000 gross per year (the median salary in France).
  • Senior Financial Director: Up to €15,000 gross per month in large international groups.

Career Progression

  • Financial Director of a hotel group.
  • General Manager of a hotel or hotel chain.
  • The possibility of moving into strategic roles in other sectors (banking, consulting, multinational corporations).
